Mugga Lane-Red Hill-Parliament House walk (8km: 2.5-3 hours).

Meet by 8.45am at the Federation Mall car park. Car shuttle to Mugga Lane for 9am start.

There are no parking fees on Saturday. A car shuttle will be organised to the Red Hill Dog Motel and Cattery, where we will leave some cars. We intend to start at 9.00am.

The walk is initially through the Canberra Nature Reserve Park, then across Hindmarsh Drive at traffic lights. We will then walk through Red Hill towards the Red Hill Nature Park. The climb to Red Hill Lookout ascends about 120 metres over about 1.5 km on well-formed tracks; there will be a rest stop on the way up.  Depending on time and numbers at the café there will be a 15-30 minute coffee break at the lookout.

The walk continues down many (sometimes steep) steps exiting Red Hill near Melbourne Avenue. We then go down Melbourne Avenue crossing State Circle before continuing on a well formed gravel path. This path, through bushland, goes around the western side of Parliament House and emerges on the south-western corner of Parliament House (a few minutes walk to our cars). If a second tea/coffee/drink or lunch beckons then there is the cafe at Parliament House. This bushland and suburbia walk has several points of historical interest (probably unnoticed by many) at points before and after entering Red Hill Nature Reserve and, of course, vast views over the city. Walking sticks, water and snacks advised.

To confirm attendance contact Keith Skamp before June 14, ph. 0419 122 503 or email
