We meet at “Stromlo Forest Park” main car park (Opperman Ave off John Gorton Dr, Molonglo) for a car shuttle to “Mt Stromlo Observatory Visitor’s Centre”.
At 9.30am Dr Brad Tucker will take us on a 90 min private guided walking tour of the Mt Stromlo Observatory site, highlighting the Astronomy research work and Heritage facilities.
Following morning tea at the summit, we walk to Stromlo Forest Park along fire trails, offering spectacular views (3-4km). Walking stick recommended for the beginning of the descent.
From Stromlo Forest Park, we have a short drive to the “Butters Bridge Loop Walk” parking area. From here it’s an easy (2-3km) scenic walk on fire trails to Butters Bridge for a picnic lunch by the Molonglo River.
Afterwards we complete the Loop Walk which takes us back to the parking area for the return car shuttle to Mt Stromlo summit.
