Christians are called to support one another through care and charity and this is expressed in various ways in the life of the Church.
The ordained clergy are called to exercise a special pastoral ministry on behalf of the community of faith of prayerfully bearing Christian faith and hope, which flow from the mysteries of Christ’s passion and resurrection, into the ups and downs of life as experienced by their parishioners. This is particularly expressed through sacramental pastoral care (eg. anointing, communion of the sick and dying, the rite of reconciliation/confession). They are also available to provide prayerful support for the bereaved and those seeking Christian support and encouragement as they experience other challenges or simply plod along through life.
Sacramental pastoral care may be arranged for those who are in special need, especially local nursing home residents, the housebound, the very sick and the dying.
