Parish of Manuka South Canberra

Refugee Support Team

The Refugee Support Team seeks to give effect to the values of our Parish by:

  • Raising funds in the name of the Parish to support local, national and international organisations that assist and advocate for asylum seekers and refugees, e.g. Anglicare, Companion House, UNHCR
  • Co-operating with local churches and secular organisations to provide practical support to asylum seekers on Manus Island and  Nauru and to refugees and asylum seekers living in Canberra, in particular through the Emergency Linen Cupboard
  • Advocating for humane treatment of asylum seekers and refugees, in particular through representations to politicians, participating in mass rallies such as the Palm Sunday Rally in support of refugees
  • Educating parishioners and other interested members of the public on asylum seeker and refugee issues, in particular through informative talks and newsletters and participation in Refugee Week activities.

The RST meets at St David’s on the first Monday of the month, at 5.30 pm. Contact Convener Robert Goodrick at goodrick@netspeed.com.au
